Intriguing Incentives & Reassuring Resources
  • City of Jackson Economic Incentive Program
  • Jackson Opportunity Zones
  • The Obsolete Property Rehabilitation Act (OPRA), PA 146 of 2000, as amended, provides property tax exemptions for commercial and commercial housing properties that are rehabilitated and meet the Act's requirements. The taxable value is frozen for the duration of the immunity. Read the Obsolete Property Rehabilitation Act FAQs
  • The CDC Tax Credit: An Effective Tool For Attracting Private Resources To Community Economic Development. In 1993, Congress established a pilot program that provided a tax credit for community development corporations (CDCs) to help these nonprofit organizations promote economic development in low-income areas.
  • Brownfield Redevelopment Program: Brownfield properties are those in which the contamination's presence or perception may complicate the property's redevelopment or reuse. Revitalizing and redeveloping these properties protects the environment, reuses existing infrastructure, minimizes urban sprawl, and creates economic opportunities. The Remediation and Redevelopment Division provides financial and technical assistance, including grants, loans, tax increment financing, and free site assessments to facilitate brownfield properties' redevelopment. Find out more about EGLE at Michigan.gov.
  • Personal Property Tax Exemption: The General Property Tax Act provides exemptions for specific personal property categories, including Small Business Taxpayer Exemption, Eligible Manufacturing Personal Property, and Act 328 – New Personal Property. Find out more about personal property tax at Michigan.gov.

There are several others; please contact the Jackson Anchor Initiative for further details.
