The Hotel Hayes

The MML and MEDC brought on Smith Group to do the heavy lifting for the Hayes Hotel project. They have switched up this team to apply their market analysis skills and unique historic property rehab more effectively – both much needed for this signature project.

Find out about the latest on the Hotel Hayes development plans.

The Smith Group members include Kathleen Duffy and Alex Huff. The MML has worked with these two on a few projects in the past year or so – including the recently completed Isabella Bank RFQ package in Mount Pleasant, which is currently out for bid by MEDC.

Former school being turned into housing and commercial space.

The Jackson Anchor Initiative, in partnership with the City of Jackson, is pleased to announce the proposal from Detroit Rock Solid Inc. to transform Jackson’s Allen School building into a mixed-use residential and commercial space. The proposal will create 50 market rate units of 1 bed/1 bath and studio units, along with public communal space and professional offices.

Allen School, at 906 E. Pearl St., was built in 1927 as a school for children with special needs but is currently vacant. The two-story building covers 53,000 sq. ft and is located next to Henry Ford Allegiance Health hospital. The apartments will average 650 sq. ft. for the 1b/1b and 500sq. ft. for the studio units. About 15 percent of the space will be used for professional offices and 5 percent will be communal space for the apartment residents and public use. Total project costs are estimated to be more than $7.5 million and it will take approximately 18 months to complete.
