New Innovation is on the Rise
A key piece of downtown Jackson’s success is the Jackson Anchor Initiative’s continued push to develop cutting-edge innovation into our community. From the Smart Energy District, an efficient and affordable clean energy hub, to the Food Innovation Center, a ground-breaking vertical farming endeavor, we are always working to bring business here that will benefit our community.
In development by Consumers Energy, the Jackson Smart Energy District combines innovative technology and business models to optimize customer and grid benefits, integrate on-site renewables, and reduce emissions. The ultimate project goal will be to satisfy 40% of the district’s electricity demand with on-site renewables and reduce the carbon emissions by 90%. This is projected to be done through energy efficiencies in buildings, including: on-site solar, electric vehicle charging, building/energy management systems, innovative business models and more.
The Anchor Initiative is working on a transformative business idea for downtown. The Food Innovation Center idea would be a ground-breaking platform of integrating vertical farms and greenhouses that is intended to provide fresh produce year-round while conserving soil and water to grow more with less. This revolutionary model would be a game changer for downtown restaurants and patrons, as they would always have access to fresh produce even in Michigan’s off seasons. The Anchor Initiative is continuing to pursue this innovating business to downtown Jackson.
Bright Walls is a mural festival hosted by the Jackson Young Professionals that has completely transformed the look of Jackson’s downtown area. The festival has brought in artists from around the world to right here in Jackson to create one-of-a-kind murals just for our city. Bright Walls has received rave reviews from downtown residents, businesses, and patrons alike, everyone enjoys the upgraded urban feel the murals have added to the downtown space.
